19 Jul Remembering Eric Anweiler, Our Moose
It is with heavy hearts that the North Toronto Hockey Association acknowledges the passing of Eric Anweiler, North Toronto Memorial Arena’s long-time General Manager and a fixture in the North Toronto community. We send our deepest sympathy to Eric’s family, whom he loved dearly. He was a very proud husband, father, and grandfather.
Eric, known lovingly as Moose to all who knew him, played his minor hockey at North Toronto Memorial Arena growing up. A life-long Leafs (and Argos) fan, he was a formidable force on the ice in his youth and was legendary for putting a shot through the net during one game. Eric eventually joined the arena staff under the tutelage of Ross Blatchford (Christie’s Dad), before becoming the Arena’s General Manager. He loved North Toronto Arena and took great pride in making it one of the best rinks in the City. He was very proud and fond of his staff at the arena, as they were of him. Eric’s office was open to all and there could be found the many pictures, mementos and jerseys given to him in his 50 years with the arena.
Eric had an enormous heart and was always a champion of the underdog. He will be missed dearly by all those who had the privilege of knowing him and calling him a friend, of which there are many.
Rest in peace, Moose.
